Katy Perry denied Ruby Rose’s sexual assault claims on Monday, calling them “dangerous, reckless lies.”

“The allegations being circulated on social media by Ruby Rose about Katy Perry are not only categorically false, they are dangerous reckless lies,” a representative for Perry said in a statement to TheWrap. “Ms. Rose has a well-documented history of making serious public allegations on social media against various individuals, claims that have repeatedly been denied by those named.”

Her response came after the actress accused the singer on Sunday of sexually assaulting her at a nightclub 20 years ago, via Threads.

“Katy Perry sexual assaulted me at spice market nightclub in Melbourne. I was only in my early 20s. I’m now 40. It has taken almost 2 decades to say this publicly,” she wrote. “I told the story publicly but changed it to be a ‘funny little drunk story’ because I didn’t know how else to handle it. Later she agreed to help me get my US visa. So I kept it a secret. But I DID tell yall she wasn’t a good person. Instead I got attacked by.. everyone.”

After a social media user asked if the “I Kissed a Girl” singer “kissed and girl” and didn’t like it, Rose replied, “She didn’t kiss me.”

“She saw me ‘resting’ on my best friends lap to aoivd [sic] her and bent down, pulled her underwear to the side and rubbed her disgusting vagina on my face until my eyes snapped open and I projectile vomited on her,” she further stated.

Rose continued: “Not interested in filing a [police] report over this, not when I haven’t even filed a report for the numerous rapes at the hands of grown men. But she is more than welcome to sue me (she won’t, because it happened, I have photos and it was literally in public and witnessed by multiple people). Plus there is so much more that happened in the years leading up to her silly song she won’t want me discussing. The psychological manipulation was strong with that one.”

Later on, the actress added, “Just left the police station,” though she didn’t share any further specifics.

Michael Ovitz Wants Back In. Will Hollywood Have Him? https://www.thewrap.com/industry-news/business/michael-ovitz-umg-hollywood/ Mon, 13 Apr 2026 13:31:33 +0000 https://www.thewrap.com/?p=7998575 Universal Music Group faces a takeover bid by shareholder Bill Ackman, with Ovitz to become chairman

The post Michael Ovitz Wants Back In. Will Hollywood Have Him? appeared first on TheWrap.

]]>
I’m not sure who’s keeping Hollywood’s bingo card, but the return of Michael Ovitz was definitely not on mine.

Once considered the most powerful man in Hollywood, Ovitz now proposes to return to the entertainment industry he left behind – or more accurately, was driven from – with a plan by billionaire and investor Bill Ackman to buy Universal Music Group, one of only three major music publishers that control the vast majority of the global music publishing market and the home of megastars Taylor Swift, Bad Bunny and Sabrina Carpenter, for $64 billion.

In the letter Ackman sent the UMG board of directors last week, he proposes to buy a controlling stake in the company, with a current market cap of $42 billion, and that Ovitz, 79, “one of the most recognized global entertainment executives,” would become the chairman of the board, replacing Sherry Lansing. Lucian Grainge would remain the CEO.

This is something of a shock to those who haven’t seen a sign of Ovitz in Hollywood for 20 years or so, since his final bid for relevance in running the Artist Management Group (AMG) failed in 2002. He finally slunk out of the entertainment industry to do something else in Palo Alto — investing, mentoring tech entrepreneurs, advising mega-investors such as Marc Andreessen and investigating the wonders of artificial intelligence.

And he has successfully built real clout in Silicon Valley.

Bullish on AI and bearish on entertainment, Ovitz advises CEO Alex Karp of Palantir Technologies, which is soaring on government defense and commercial contracts. Since the 2010s, he both invested and offered strategic counsel to Palantir through his firm Broad Beach Ventures. And according to the website of his company Treville Capital he was instrumental in negotiating early commercial contracts for the company, which now has a $306 billion (you read right) market cap.

And yet Hollywood still pulls him back. Why, I wonder?

Michael Ovitz and Steven Spielberg
Barbara Walters, Michael Ovitz and Steven Spielberg

At the time he left, Ovitz was probably the most hated man in the industry, having twisted too many arms, betrayed too many partners, broken too many promises. Before that, he had been the town’s singularly powerful broker, co-founding CAA in 1974 and building it for two decades into a powerhouse where he personally represented everyone from Barbara Streisand to Martin Scorsese to Meryl Streep, an endless A-list clientele at a time when talent commanded tens of millions of dollars for projects. He built a packaging model to which the Hollywood studios had to submit, and was known as a ruthless negotiator and strategist, a relentless flatterer and bully.

Undeniably, Ovitz was a huge success, but by the time he left CAA for a brief but disastrous tenure at the Walt Disney Company in 1995, the town was rooting for his failure.

So why come back to a place that rejected him? It might be as simple as – he can’t help it. Or maybe, as one corporate leader from his era told me, he’s seeking some kind of redemption.

Ovitz is a close advisor to Ackman. And the problem for Ackman, who bought 10 percent of UMG from Vivendi four years ago and now owns about 3 percent, was that UMG stock has been persistently moribund despite company growth. Since 2021, UMG has been listed on the Dutch stock exchange called Euronext, and since then, the share price has dropped 23% from its €25.10 closing on the first day of its Euronext listing. Ackman was ready to sell.

According to an individual close to the deal, it was Ovitz who proposed to Ackman to instead align with Lucian Grainge and buy the whole company. Ackman had previously advocated moving UMG off the Dutch exchange to list it on the S&P. Doing so, he believes, would draw investment from major institutional funds such as Blackrock, Vanguard and Fidelity, which are required to hold a percentage of all companies in the S&P. That alone is expected to drive the share price up.

But Ovitz also believes he brings personal value to the deal: as a conduit for digital innovation, in fostering relationships with artists. And as a path back to that small circle of power brokers who run the industry.

An individual close to UMG told me that Ovitz has only met Grainge a couple of times.

Standing in the way of Ovitz’s UMG ambition is the French Bolloré family, the controlling shareholder of Vivendi, parent of Canal+, Havas and publisher Hachette, which owns 18 percent of the company. Vivendi, which they own, separately owns another 10 percent.

Clearly the Bollorés need to agree to sell to make this happen and their posture is unclear. Ackman’s bid claims to offer a 78% premium to UMG’s stock price, which includes 5 euros per share plus equity in the US-based new UMG. That might be a useful target for the Ovitz charm — he still has it.

I don’t know Ovitz well, but I know for certain that despite the passage of years, there are some in Hollywood who still carry a grudge, or at the very least are wary of his reputation. The scars of his tenure at Disney hurt Michael Eisner’s legacy after Eisner brought him in. Ovitz’s split with his CAA founding partner Ron Meyer continued to send ripples through a community where Meyer remains well liked.

And Ovitz’s legacy of agent-turned-dealmaker ruthlessness lives on, ironically not in the image of his own agency, CAA, where the elegant CEO Bryan Lourd operates quite differently, but more in the person of Endeavor’s Ari Emanuel, whose take-no-prisoners ethos echoes Lao-Tzu’s “Art of War,” which Ovitz famously recommended as a playbook.

In his 2018 memoir, “Who is Michael Ovitz?” the former power broker owned some of the personal damage he wrought. “I was a control freak. A shape-shifting machine. A Terminator,” he wrote. “That was the image I took great care to project, anyway,” he continued, adding, “It was an image I grew to hate.”

That may be what passes for an apology. Most of us have moved on. And the proposed UMG deal? The board and the market will decide.

Asha Bhsole, a two-time Grammy winner whose voice was used in over 2,000 Bollywood films, has died of a heart attack. She was 92.

The news was first reported by The Times of India.

“I am deeply saddened by the passing of Smt. Asha Bhosle ji, one of India’s most renowned and versatile voices,” wrote India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi on X. “Her unique musical journey spanning decades has enriched our cultural heritage and touched the hearts of countless people around the world. From soulful melodies to spirited compositions, her voice carried a timeless brilliance. I will forever cherish the memories of my conversations with her.”

“My heartfelt condolences to her family, fans, and music lovers,” he continued. “She will continue to inspire future generations, and her songs will forever resonate in people’s lives.”

Bhsole’s Bollywood debut came in 1943 when she sang “Chala Chala Nav Bala” for the film “Majha Bal.” She made her Hindi film debut with “Saawan Aaya” in “Chunariya” in 1948.

She continued her career into her 90th year, when she performed a live concert in Dubai.

“At the age of 90, I have to stand for three hours on stage and sing songs, I’m happy I can do this at this age,” Bhsole said at the time. “I have spent my life with this thought. I have given a lot to music. I feel good I’ve come out of difficult times. Many times I felt I would not be able to survive, but I did.”

Asha Bhosle was born in September 1933 in present-day Maharashtra, India. She is survived by her son, Anand Bhosle.

Sabrina Carpenter apologized Saturday after she responded to a fan’s Zaghrouta as “weird” during her Coachella set Friday. Carpenter insisted her response was due to “pure confusion.”

“[M]y apologies i didn’t see this person with my eyes and couldn’t hear clearly. my reaction was pure confusion, sarcasm and not ill intended,” she wrote on social meida. “[I] could have handled it better! now i know what a Zaghrouta is! I welcome all cheers and yodels from here on out.”

Video from the performance in question shows Carpenter seated at a piano when the Zaghrouta rings out.

@kiwolared She’s weird #fyp #coachella #sabrinacarpenter ♬ original sound – kiwola._

After the woman explained the call is “my culture,” Carpenter said, ““Is that what you’re doing? I don’t like it. That’s your culture, yodeling? It’s a call, it’s a call of celebration. Is this Burning Man? What’s going on? This is weird.”

A Zaghrouta is a traditional Arabic and North African call of celebration often performed by women at weddings, parties, and even funerals.

Fans had mixed responses to Carpenter’s apology. One person wrote on X, “It’s understandable. Done the right thing by apologizing. Respecting the diversity of the world we live in is key to a peaceful co-existence.”

A second chimed in, “[B]eing a celebrity must be exhausting cause there’s no way people are mad at this.”

But a third person voice frustrations that some fans continue to have in response to the incident. “You literally asked them if that was their culture and said you didn’t like it afterwards girl bye,” they wrote. “Performative and you probably about to promote an album and this is your way of ‘clearing your name.'”

Labrinth, the singer who worked closely with the “Euphoria” team for seasons one and two, offered more insight into why his music will not be featured in the third season, writing in an Instagram story on Saturday that “I don’t let people treat me like s–t.”

“People will comfortably lie in this industry and still call themselves honest people. So no cap, I decided to remove whatever music I had in it,” he began. “I spoke to HBO, as far as I know, we are cool. I left because, last truth, when I work for someone, their vision is paramount to me, but I don’t let people treat me like s–t.”

Representatives for “Euphoria” creator Sam Levinson did not immediately respond Saturday to requests for comment. HBO declined to comment.

The artist, who is best known for creating the show’s sound and tone as well as for the song “All For Us,” previously hinted at discord with the show’s production team. “I’m done with this industry. F–k Columbia. Double f–k ‘Euphoria.’ I’m out. Thank you and good night x,” he wrote in a since-deleted Story in March. That message was shared nearly a month before the season’s debut.

In July 2025 Labrinth announced he would be working alongside Hans Zimmer for the show’s third season.

“It’s an honor to join this incredible team of storytellers led by the visionary Sam Levinson,” Zimmer said in a statement at the time. “Together, they have crafted such a bold and moving series that has meant so much to audiences. Labrinth’s music has shaped the show’s identity and I’m looking forward to contributing to the ongoing story and helping shape this new season through music.”

Katseye brought out a surprise guest for their Coachella set Friday evening, as the singers behind “KPop Demon Hunters'” Huntr/x joined them on stage for a performance of “Golden.”

That’s right – Ejae, Audrey Nuna and Rei Ami who provided the singing voices for the fictional girl band in the Oscar-winning animated movie, took to the Sahara stage with Daniela Avanzini, Lara Raj, Megan Skiendiel, Sophia Laforteza and Yoonchae Jeung to perform their chart-topping hit. (Manon Bannerman did not perform with Katseye, however, as she’s been on hiatus from the group since February.)

There were rumors circulating earlier on Friday that the ladies of Huntr/x were set to perform with Katseye, as footage of the two groups doing a soundcheck together made the rounds on TikTok.

The decision for Huntr/x to perform with Katseye made a lot of sense, given both groups are heavily influenced by K-Pop culture and had their breakout moments thanks to projects on Netflix.

Specifically, “KPop Demon Hunters” broke all sorts of records for the streamer following its release in June 2025, going on to win the Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song Oscars at the 98th Academy Awards.

As for Katseye, their journey as K-Pop trainees was heavily documented for the 2024 docuseries, titled “Pop Star Academy: KATSEYE.” After releasing hit singles like “Debut,” “Gnarly,” “Gabriela” and “Touch,” Katseye was nominated for the Best New Artist and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance Grammys at the 2026 awards show.

Katseye is set to perform next Friday at Coachella, as well, where Sabrina Carpenter is expected to headline the night.

You probably didn’t expect or plan to walk out of “You, Me & Tuscany” with a Mario song from 2004 stuck in your head, but sure enough, that’s probably what happened, right? It was just one of a few bangers on that soundtrack.

Now in theaters, the film stars Halle Bailey and Regé-Jean Page as they fall in love amid the backdrop of beautiful Tuscany. Bailey plays Anna, an almost-chef who dropped out of culinary school when her mom got sick, and kind of got stuck. Meanwhile, Page is the owner of a Tuscan vineyard, who Anna meets when she pretends to be engaged to his brother.

The moment things start to turn for them? When Mario’s “Let Me Love You” comes into play. But, like we said, it’s just a small piece of that soundtrack, which just so happens to be one of the best parts of the film.

You can see the full soundtrack below:

 • “Rise n Shine” by Leela James
 • “My Muse” by Leon Thomas
 • “Themselves” by Jordan Ward
 • “Trouble” by José James
 • “So Easy (To Fall in Love)” by Olivia Dean
 • “Soft Girl Era” by Ari Lennox
 • “La Vendemmia” — Traditional
 • “Sarà Perché Ti Amo” by Ricchi E Poveri
 • “Let Me Love You” by Mario
 • “Light Work (Remix)” by Elmiene feat. Blxst
 • “Brindisi (Drinking Song)” from “La Traviata”
 • “Easier Said Than Done” by Thee Sacred Souls
 • “Marcia Del Palio Dei Somari” written by Massimo Bolici
 • “Matteo” written by Antonio Graziano
 • “A Far L’Amore Comincia Tu (Liebelei)” by Raffaella Carrà
 • “Cannaiola” — Traditional
 • “Pray For Ya” by John Legend
 • “Live Love Learn” by Estelle
 • “Chimica” by Ditonellapiaga & Donatella Rettore

YouTube Premium is hiking its prices in the U.S. for the first time since 2023.

The company is raising the price of its core plan by $2 to $15.99, while its Premium Lite and Music plans are increasing $1 each to $11.99 and $8.99, respectively. Additionally, the family plan, which allows up to six people in the same household to have access, will increase by $4 to $26.99.

“We’re updating the price for YouTube Premium plans in the U.S. for the first time since 2023 to continue delivering a high-quality experience that supports creators and artists on YouTube,” a company spokesperson shared in a Friday statement to TheWrap. “This change allows us to maintain the features our members value most: ad-free viewing, background play, and a massive library of 300M+ tracks on YouTube Music. We continue to offer several plans, ensuring subscribers can choose the option that works best for them.”

YouTube is the latest to hike prices, following Netflix raising prices across its plans for the second time in over a year in March, Amazon increasing the fee for Prime Video’s ad-free viewing experience and Spotify increasing prices on its various plans in January.

YouTube Music and Premium collectively reach over 125 million subscribers globally — a number that includes trials.

The Premium Lite tier launched in 2025 as a cheaper alternative, now complete with access to downloads and background play for most videos.
